If it were possible to Gary Danko six stars, I would. Believe the hype. Possibly one of the best meals I've had...ever. Our group of five had several favorites:
- Appetizers: Lobster Risotto, Lobster Salad and Sweet Corn Soup w Crab.
-Entrees: Horseradish Crusted Salmon, Roasted Pork Belly, Lemon Pepper Duck Breast
-Dessert: Chocolate Souffle, French Macaroon Ice Cream Sandwiches, Roaster Pear with Gingerbread and Nutmeg ice cream
Ambiance: The windows are blacked out, which allows for a very controlled environment. Lighting is just right and noise levels are low enough to allow for good conversation. Although staff are constantly attending to guests, the overall mood remains calm.
Service: The staff goes out of its way to be extremely friendly, gracious, observant and detail oriented. From the moment you walk in to the final goodbye, the staff delivers rockstar treatment. Decorative hooks are provided for women to conveniently hang their handbags on the edge of the table. Water is poured in a way that minimizes potential splashes. Women are given a "going away present" at the end of dinner.
Flexibility: The menu has a plethora of options and you order based on your preference for a three, four or five course dinner. You're not limited to one dish from each category either so theoretically you could have a dinner of five appetizers or five desserts if you wanted.
Facilities: Valet parking is available for $11, but we found street parking a couple of blocks away. There are three unisex restrooms, all of which could almost double as fancy massage treatment rooms. Just replace the toilet with a massage table.
Ultimately, it's difficult to find anything negative to say about Restaurant Gary Danko, other than the price. I would definitely recommend this place for special occasions.
