SET POINT, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) incorporated in the District of Columbia as a non-profit in November of 2002 and received its IRS Determination in March of 2003 and Final Determination in June of 2007. A member of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Mid-Atlantic Region, a Community Tennis Association (CTA), a National Junior Tennis League (NJTL) and affiliated with Professional Tennis Registry (PTR), providing year round tennis instruction for youths of the District of Columbia with a primary focus on girls, ages 7-14, living in targeted areas of Wards 7 and 8.
SET POINT, Inc. hires college students with tennis competitive or training histories to train the youth. We seek participation from the underserved youth of the city between the ages 8 through 15 years. Or camp requires girls not to have to played competitive tennis prior to acceptance, and all will learn the rules of the game, its etiquette, and how to play a complete set of tennis. By the end of the camp, each youth participating will have the skills necessary to try out for positions on their school tennis teams in the fall. Our bottom line is to get girls educated! We know girls can become successful college graduates upon acquiring and then utilizing principles learned while involved in an individual sport like tennis, with education, which can propel and sustain them through completion.
It is comprised of parents, guardians and committed professionals determined to fulfill our mission. We know that a less than total commitment to the sport can still expose a girl to an opportunity at a college education. SET POINT has offered summer tennis camp programs in 2007, 2008 and 2009 at the Anacostia Tennis Courts. We hosted a tennis after-school program from October 2008 thru May 2009 at the Anacostia Tennis Courts and Fort Davis Recreation Center. Beside our traditional camp, we offered two additional summer camps for Carrera Trust and Community Family Lift Center in 2009.
To date, we have provided services to over 300 youth through our tennis program. Our bottom line is to get girls educated!
