As an alternative to negative influences of drugs, obesity, violence and idleness all too often found in inner-city environments, SET POINT will offer girls from families at 30 to 80% of the average medium income (AMI) an opportunity to learn the game of tennis--known as the game of ladies and gentlemen. The girls can, through the game and its etiquette, gain physical prowess and lady-like traits. They can also be shown how the game of tennis can lead to further training and a to a college education.
SET POINT will reach out to the girls during a time considered most vulnerable. The hope is that the development of positive attitudes and behavior patterns will remain with them for life. Further, the aim is to offset some of the negative images offered by videos as to what appropriate behavior is and what physical beauty resembles
